Online Evidence-Based Clinical Review Cases

As part of our strategy to provide guideline based asthma continuing medical education (CME) to the broadest possible audience, the Ontario Thoracic Society (OTS) Provider Education Program has developed an online asthma CME program in collaboration with the Canadian Thoracic Society (CTS) Asthma Guidelines Committee, the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) and with funding support from the Canadian Lung Association and the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care."

Asthma Diagnosis and Management in Adults the first in the series of online asthma cases adapted from the Evidence-Based Clinical Review Case Series published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) is now available. 

This program for health care professionals is designed to increase confidence in the diagnosis and management of asthma in adults. 

The learning objectives for this program are to:

–      Identify specific questions that you should ask during history taking

–      Understand the importance of spirometry in the diagnosis and management of asthma

–      Understand the elements of optimal asthma management

–      Identify the importance of asthma education

–      Understand the importance of follow up

Production of a program on pediatric asthma - Achieving Asthma Control in Preschoolers and Management of Persistent Asthma in the Young Child is underway.

The learning objectives for this program are to:

–      Develop confidence in making a clinical diagnosis of asthma in the preschooler.

–      Know when and how to initiate a trial of regular asthma controller therapy in the preschooler.

–      Know how to monitor response to asthma therapy and when to refer to a specialist.
