With the recently established 2012 Asthma Guideline Updates as well as the 2008 CTS COPD Guideline Updates, participants will be able to identify, differentially diagnose, manage and treat both COPD and asthma. This program will provide health care providers with the necessary resources and fundamental tools to achieve this in their primary care workplace in accordance with evidence-based clinical practice guidelines.
By the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:
- Identify symptoms of COPD & Asthma.
- Differentiate COPD from Asthma by applying the Diagnostic Flow Diagrams for obstruction and restriction.
- Provide management according to correct diagnosis.
- Correctly complete two case studies by applying the Canadian Asthma Consensus Guidelines (CACG) and the CTS COPD Guidelines.
This is a two and a half hour program comprised of a didactic presentation delivered by a specialist in the field, followed by the opportunity to actively work through two cases with a recognized leader in their community – family practitioners or certified asthma/COPD educators. Prior to the workshop, participants will be asked to complete a pre-assessment form; one month after the workshop, completion of a post-assessment form will be requested.
This workshop meets the accreditation criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been approved for 2.5 MAINPRO+ credits.
